Springtime in Italy is also “ponte” season. When national Italian holidays fall near a Friday or a Monday, people arbitrarily build a ponte (a bridge) to take the Monday or Friday off and have a long weekend. Today is April 25th, on this day we celebrate Italy’s liberation from Nazi occupation in 1945.
Yesterday my son’s school was closed. The ponte was built, you guessed it. Although I was not completely offline, I did treat myself to some well-earned fave e pecorino, a match made in springtime heaven.
Today I will do the same.
Auguri!
