Have you signed up for a wine and cheese tasting led by me and our resident cheese expert Eleonora? If you haven’t, you’re just in time for our April 30th tasting. The theme is Red Wines for Spring. We kick off the event at 3:30 pm EST with a little vino 101 chat while sipping on our first wine. Proceeds will be donated to Doctors Without Borders for their humanitarian efforts and medical support in Ukraine.

We have a lot of fun choosing the focus for our monthly wine and cheese tastings. This month was no exception. This New Englander loves spring time weather. Heavy boots and puffer coats make their way to storage. It’s nearly time for cambio di stagione which literally translates as the change of season and in Italy means time to pack away the cashmere and break out a jean jacket and summer kicks.

I crawl out of bed at 6 am to walk my girl Chloé. I layer up; scarf, light winter coat, and a hat. She lies by the door, still half-asleep but she will never pass up a morning walk in Villa Pamphili. At 12:00, it is time for our second walk. It is sunny and warm. I trade in my coat for a feather weight sweater, throw on sunglasses and soak up the sun. Between 10:00 and 11:00 pm, it is time for our last walk and I’m bundled back up.

I cherish this pleasantly unpredictable weather. One day, it’s chilly and time for a Montelpulciano d’Abruzzo with grilled lamb chops. The next day it’s t-shirt weather and I say rosé, rosé, rosé. So, I’ve selected 3 red wines to taste on April 30 to accompany us through this brief season and pair with Italian spring recipes.
