1. Break bread
For couples, a romantic dinner is a classic way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. However, breaking bread is a beautiful way to enjoy this day with your Gal or your Pal as well. Think yummy comfort food like lasagna; make it an activity and create ravioli together. Dessert is always a must. An ice cream sundae bar with all the toppings is always a hit or for something a little more refined (but oh so easy to make) try Torta Caprese!
2. Spend money
Gifts are always fun to buy, to give, and to receive! Obviously we believe that a trip to Italy is one of the best gifts to give and to receive. We are more than happy to assist in this! Just contact us. If Italy is not on the docket at the moment, we completely understand. Buy local and keep it simple but meaningful. You do not have to spend a lot of money to show love.
3. Spend time
What is better than spending money on someone? Spending time with that someone. Go for a walk, meet for coffee or a beverage of your choice and simply chat. Bowling, karaoke, yoga or a bike ride are all ways to spend time with your person or people.
4. Write it down
We live in the age of texting and social media. All too often these modes of communication are used in a reactionary way of vengeance. Not today. Be proactive. Text your loved ones to remind them that they are loved and thought of today and everyday. Feeling nostalgic? Walk down the greeting card aisle of your local drug store and buy a card. Then, buy a stamp. Next you fill the card out, seal it, address the envelope, and place the stamp on your card. If your mailman takes mail, you are in luck. If not bring it to the post office and drop it in the mail. While you are there, say a nice hello to the post office workers. Something tells me they need it after this holiday season.
5. Treat yourself
Do not forget yourself. Love starts with number one and that is YOU. You must walk the walk before you talk the talk. Treat yourself with a massage, a pint of Ben and Jerry’s or a nap. Whatever it is that you don’t do for yourself on the regular. Self care is so necessary. Start now.
Many may claim that Valentine’s Day, much like New Year’s Eve is amateur hour. If so, let it be so. However, I challenge you to bring a little bit of Valentine’s, Galentine’s or Palentine’s Day into a random Tuesday, if not on the actual day. Better yet, find a weekly ritual that allows you to show, give, and live love. Love is imperative to our nature and unfortunately it seems harder and harder to find. Be love. Spread love. Share love. Happy Day, Week, Year of Love. Pass it on.
