Learn to row like a true Venetian, then eat and drink like one.
The canals of Venice are deeply rooted in the history of this magical city. What better way to understand Venice than by boarding a batelina and taking to the water?
Venice is made up of 118 islands with 391 bridges crossing 177 canals. Nicknames of Venice rightfully include “City of Water”, “Serenissima” and “The Floating City”. It is truly unlike any other place in the world. Water is this city’s backbone and life-force. It is imperative for locals to learn to navigate its myriad waterways.
Your privately guided tour will start by learning the fundamentals of Venetian rowing, on land, before boarding and gliding along the canals and out to the Venetian Lagoon. Learn of the history of rowing, and the origins of the city, its architecture, and culture while taking turns being the gondolier!
In the past the slender vessels were widely used but are now rare, they are perfectly suited for a first approach to rowing, and as a matter of fact they are very spacious and stable.
This experience undoubtedly works up an appetite and thirst. Since you have rowed like a true Venetian, you will now eat and drink like one. Your guides will take you to a few bàcari to eat a variety of typical cicchetti with prosecco or local wines to experience the authentic flavor of Veneto as you explore Venice sull’ Acqua.

Practical Info
Key Points to Consider
- To ensure everyone’s safety, the instructor may ask one person to not board if the group is too large or if participants exceed the combined weight of four adults.
- Agility is more important than weight. You’ll need to be limber to board and alight the boat smoothly, and to switch positions efficiently with your crew mates during rowing.
- We can accommodate groups of 5. Choose between our larger batelina for a comfortable ride, or opt for two boats to maximize your individual rowing time.
- For a safe and enjoyable experience, rowing lessons may be rescheduled due to weather. We can’t row in heavy rain and strong winds (above 20 km/h). If severe weather is forecast the day before, we’ll contact you to reschedule. The lagoon’s weather can be unpredictable, so we’ll also make a final call one hour before your lesson to confirm if conditions are suitable.
- You will be on the water throughout this experience. Please dress comfortably with flexible shoes that allow you to move safely. Heels and strappy sandals are not recommended. Leave the bulky bags behind as space onboard is limited.
