Emilia-Romagna, the long lost friend you never knew you had

Emilia-Romagna, the long lost friend you never knew you had, is a region that has long held a special place in my heart. It is experiencing quite a surge in popularity this year.  This is an area we highly recommend you travel to before it becomes too touristy, which undoubtedly will happen in the next few years.

At Casa Mia, we’ve witnessed this increase firsthand. In 2025 we have sent twice as many clients to this area this year, than last—a testament to its growing allure. For me, Emilia-Romagna is one of, if not the favorite region in all of Italy, a feeling that only deepens with each visit. Emilia-Romagna; the long lost friend you never knew you had!

Why Emilia-Romagna?

What draws me back, time and again? There are so many reasons. To name a few, we can start with its diverse landscapes ranging from the sun-drenched beaches of the Adriatic coast to the awe-inspiring peaks of the Apennines. Nestled within these breathtaking vistas are countless picturesque castles, each whispering tales of centuries past, inviting exploration.

But beyond the visual splendor, it is the warmth and genuine hospitality of the people that truly has a hold on me. Their welcoming nature makes every interaction special, and you quickly feel less like a tourist and more like a returning friend.

The Local Cuisine

And then, of course, there’s the food. To call it “incredible” feels like an understatement; it is, truly, culinary heaven. This region is the birthplace of many of Italy’s most iconic gastronomic treasures, from the rich, complex flavors of Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma, and balsamic vinegar to the delicate, handcrafted pasta like tortellini and tagliatelle. Every meal is an experience, a celebration of fresh, local ingredients and time-honored traditions.

You may or may not be aware of my well-documented obsession with mortadella. If, by some oversight, you are not, I encourage you to rectify that immediately by reading my previous blog post dedicated to this true Bolognese delight. It’s a love affair I’m always eager to share.

However, this past trip I indulged for the first time in Tortellini in brodo. Specifically at Noi in the Mercato Delle Erbe. Three times. Yes I went three times to eat this dish at the same restaurant. It was spectacular. The broth is unlike any I have tasted before, made from beef and Capon (castrated male chickens). Its depth of flavor was truly inspiring.

I have never been a big soup person, but this has been forever changed. I would eat this soup throughout the year, no matter what the temperature soars to. It is a masterpiece and you must go. Now.

This short article is simply a teaser into the world of Emilia-Romagna. I am not alone in this thinking, in fact I am in quite good company. Both my colleagues Gina and Eleonora have written blogs on this subject as well.

However, I must bring it back to the people. The people of this region welcome you as friends at first hello. They truly are long lost friends you never knew you had. By the time you leave, you will have made connections that will last a lifetime.

Now is the time to start looking at 2026. Contact us as ciao@casamiatours.com to start planning!
