Piedmont is the birthplace of the Slow Food movement. The organization was founded in 1986 to stop the disappearance of local food traditions and to counteract the rise of fast life and fast food. Slow Food’s most anticipated biennial event is already taking form. Terre Madre Salone del Gusto will run this year from September 22 until September 26, 2016 in Turin. But there’s much more to the regional capital. Besides being the gateway to the magnificent Italian Alps, Turin exudes culture and elegance in itself and boasts a proud history of Italian chocolate and confectionary goodies.
In fact, much of Italy’s chocolate is crafted here. From gianduiotti to hot bicerin – a traditional drink made of espresso, hot chocolate and light cream – and marron glacé which are sweet chestnuts often decorated with candied violet, you’ll be joyfully satiated.
