This year’s #winterinrome weekend shared insider tips on visiting Rome in off-season, offering a glimpse into the beauty of the Eternal City at this time of year. Casa Mia partnered with The Beehive Ho(s)tel in Rome to take a group of world travelers, writers, photographers and bloggers to one of our favorite Roman neighborhoods, the Jewish Ghetto.

History and food are closely related. Our wish was to introduce what makes this part of town so special – the history, its resilient citizens, and the amazing food.

Our leisurely stroll ended at a famous local restaurant where we had the rare chance to witness the preparation of a representative dish of Roman Jewish cuisine: carciofi alla giudia, Jewish-style fried artichokes. This is the time of year to eat this special treat which is at its best between late January and May.

Even non-artichoke loving participants had a taste, hooray!
